The Sword of the Lord
 |
The Sword of the Lord, and Gideon!"
The Word of God is compared to a sword in Scripture many times. For example, a very important piece of the whole armor of God, which Paul describes in Ephesians 6, is "the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God." The Holy Spirit takes the Word which He speaks into the heart of each believer, and through the believer’s faith in the Word of God, the Sword of the Word carves out the life which the Father has provided, both individually and collectively, for His children.
Seeds which have been pulverized cannot live in a vegetable or flower garden. Likewise, neither can lies from the enemy, which have had the Sword laid to them, grow or thrive in the life of the believer in the Living God. When the devil tries to whisper his lies to us, we take the Word which has been engrafted, upon our hearts by the Holy Spirit, and we cut through the lies of the evil one with those Words, leaving the wicked words of the enemy, diced into pieces on the ground to die, unable to bring forth their evil fruit in our lives. Jesus said, "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life." John 6:63 "The devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but I have come that you might have life, and life more abundantly." John 10:10 Jesus said, “It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
The Christian life extends beyond ourselves and our families. Many times, situations and needs arise in the lives of individuals, cities, and nations, and, clad in the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18) we go forth to help others in the power of the Holy Spirit, wielding the Sword of the Spirit, cutting through the brambles which the enemy has planted in their lives. All of heaven's power backs us, as we go forth in the Name of Jesus, using the Word of God as a Sword, in the gardens and fields to which we are called, whether it is to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers (which, spiritually means to carry the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the lost), raise the dead, or to cast out devils, to break the bondage of the devil off an individual or a region.
The Sword of the Spirit is also creative. In the beginning, when the earth was empty and without form, the Holy Spirit hovered, moved, and brooded over the face of the earth. Genesis 1:2 While only darkness and nothingness existed on the non-fashioned face of God's globe, the Spirit hovered, waiting for the Word of the Lord to come forth from heaven, saying, "Let there be light!" Immediately, the Sword, the Word of God, began piercing the darkness, bringing light, billions of galaxies of light, which are still illuminating the universe with physical light today.
As I was before the Lord prior to writing this, the Lord allowed me to see His Word as a golden, gleaming Sword, carving out mountains and valleys, digging oceans, lakes, and streams, forming the features of the earth, as a sculptor, using the Sword of His Word, chiseling the worlds into existence at Creation. What awesome Power lives in the Word of the Lord! "The word of God is alive and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword…" (Hebrews 4:12) The Word, with the Power of the Holy Spirit is the Master Sculptor, Who can either form a mountain range, thwart the strategies of an advancing enemy, or engrave the life-giving Word of God on a human heart. His Word, spoken from the hearts of men, women, boys, and girls, carries the same kind of glory, power, and authority to bring about the Father's will in the earth.
As Gideon led his army of three hundred courageous men against the "Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the e ast," who were gathered in the valley "like sand on the seashore for multitude," this small, but brave army did just as Gideon had instructed them. They shouted, "The Sword of the Lord and Gideon!" (Judges 7:12) They broke their pitchers, blew their trumpets, and carried their torches through the night to the battle, (a foreshadowing of the endtime Church ) believing God was with them, as He surely was, because he saw their faith in His Word. Gideon, their leader, who was totally changed when he believed the Word of the Lord, when He called Gideon, "O, thou mighty man of valor," had instructed them in this unusual battle formation, and the Midianite army was soundly defeated. Gideon's three-hundred-man army saved Israel's crops from the Midianites by wielding the Sword of the Spirit.
We can keep the enemy from stealing our crops, irregardle ss of what those crops may be...time with the Lord, household salvation, souls, wisdom, healing, finances, love for one another, joy, peace, all the fruit of the spirit, freedom, divine protection...by wielding the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
Love and blessings,
