Lord, Have Mercy

Every human soul upon the earth stands in need of the mercy of the all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present God Who created each one of us by His loving and mighty hand. Those of us who have experienced the great mercy of God, through Jesus Christ, the Son, have a deep and abiding thankfulness and appreciation of the power of God's mercy. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him." Romans 5:8-9

This great salvation is for all who will receive Jesus and the gift of His life, His atoning death, His burial, and His resurrection. "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7:25 How truly and deeply thankful we are for His mercy and grace toward us! He is constantly calling, through the Holy Spirit, to those who are still outside His fold. Run to Him as He calls you.

Self-righteousness is a pipe dream, an utter deception "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:9 Righteousness is available only through the washing away of the inherent sin from Adam, in human hearts, by the Blood of Jesus, given through the ultimate price of the Father's Son, who willingly went to the cross to redeem the unredeemed. " Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." Isaiah 55:7

"Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

" But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit," Titus 3:4-5

In the personal lives of believers in Jesus, His mercy is forever available to us. "And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Righteous." 1 John 1:2 So those of us who are in Christ by faith in Him, always have the mercy of God to cleanse us from our sin. Our hearts have been cleansed of that desperate wickedness that we once had, and we desire to please our Father through communion with Him and imitation of Him, as dear children.

Nations also need the mercy of God for national sins committed against a holy God. Moses, Ezra, and Daniel called upon the Lord for mercy in times of rebellion and national sin, and God heard their prayers and granted mercy and deliverance. "O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and defer not, for thine own sake, O my God; for thy city and thy people are called by thy name." Daniel 9:18-19

Daniel was interceding for his beloved nation, Israel. God heard Daniel's prayers and sent the angel, Gabriel, to give him revelation of the times in which we live today, and to set Israel free from captivity.

Our nation, our beloved America, stands in need of prayers of repentance and intercession, just as Daniel prayed. We have pursued an evil plan to divide Israel's land, and the Holy One of Israel is not pleased. "I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land." Joel 3:2

"So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment." James 2:12-13 As the Word of God says, "mercy triumphs over judgment." Mercy is given when repentance flows from the heart to our Heavenly Father.

Our Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, we repent for our national sins against your people, Israel. We have been instruments in dividing Your land, and by so doing, we have sinned greatly against You and against Israel. We can only throw ourselves on Your great mercy. It's only because of Your mercies that we are not consumed, and great is Your faithfulness. Your mercies are new every morning.

Have mercy on us, O Lord. Our deeds have been wicked, and we repent before You, Our Father, in Jesus' Name. We bless Israel and pray for her salvation and good success. Thank You, Father. Amen.

As the Holy Spirit draws you to pray for mercy in your own life, or for our nation, please feel free to pray, using this prayer as a guide.
