Word for 2008
1-4-08
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2
At the beginning of a new year, we generally take inventory of our lives and seek the Lord’s will for the coming year. This is a good thing. Paul instructed Christians to examine ourselves, to see if we are “in the faith,” believing and doing what God wills and what He says in His Word.
The passage in Romans 12:1-2, quoted above, stands out to me, in the opening days of 2008. The Holy Spirit calls us to present our bodies a living sacrifice unto God. When He calls, we go. When He says to minister to the downtrodden and brokenhearted, we pour in the oil and the wine, becoming good Samaritans to those who have fallen among thieves, those robbers of peace, joy, health, harmony, fellowship and a myriad of blessings from heaven. The Holy Spirit calls us to give of ourselves, a living sacrifice, walking in holiness. This is acceptable unto God, and it is what is expected of us, or our reasonable service, the Word of God says. Does our loving Heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus, and Holy Spirit deserve anything less? As we humble ourselves before the Lord, He will cleanse us and fill us anew with Himself, making us “ready to go ready to stay, ready my place to fill, ready for service, lowly or great, ready to do His will.” This makes Father’s heart glad, and we can face the year ahead with His strength and blessing.
As we walk forward in the power of the Holy Spirit, we know that nothing that may lie ahead is bigger than our God. In Him, we live and move and have our being. All is well, as the Shunnamite woman said, all is well. We speak this not in ignorance of the enemy’s devices, but in faith in our Omnipotent, All-powerful Father. Glory to His holy Name forever!!!
